Christopher Wanjek

Christopher Wanjek is a U.S.-based science writer and the author of two previous science books, Bad Medicine (Wiley & Sons, 2003) and Food at Work (ILO, 2005). He has written more than 500 newspaper, magazine, and website articles for outlets such as the Washington Post, Sky & Telescope, Astronomy, Mercury, and, most extensively, Live Science. From 1998 to 2006, Wanjek worked at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, where he held the envious title of Senior Writer for the Structure and Evolution of the Universe. His Food at Work book and project was commissioned by the U.N.'s International Labor Organization. This project documents how meals, or the lack thereof, are a health, safety and productivity issue for workers in all countries, rich or poor. The book has been presented in more than 20 countries and has led to the passage of laws to support worker meal programs. Wanjek holds a master's degree in environmental health from Harvard School of Public Health and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Temple University. He lives with his wife and daughter in Baltimore, a quiet hamlet in Maryland close to the U.S. capital.
