Vanquish

This futuristic third-person shooter takes the genre to new, adrenalin-fuelled heights.
It takes place on a huge circular space station as the US fights a war against an army of Russian robots over Earth’s dwindling resources. You control Sam Gideon, a gruff US marine and, more importantly, his nifty combat suit: the Augmented Reaction (AR) Suit. This enables you to zip around levels at lightning pace – and you’ll need to as the screen fills with enemy robots firing bullets and missiles from all angles.
With so much going on at any one time, the key to survival is mastering the abilities of Sam’s suit. You can evade bullets with acrobatic dodges, or go into a high-speed skid that sends you shooting across the floor to reach cover.
Press the right shoulder button on your controller while skidding and the suit kicks into ‘AR mode’, slowing time down to a crawl so that individual missiles can be targeted and head-shots pulled off with ease. This uses up the suit’s power source though, so it’s a delicate juggling act to preserve the suit’s energy for critical moments like the colossal boss fights that break up the action.
The futuristic sheen to everything makes Vanquish stand out. It’s a stunning game and should definitely be on your list if you like your action thick and fast.
