This is one of the most engrossing Metal Gear Solid (MGS) games yet, which is funny, considering the whole experience takes place on a little screen in the palms of your hands. This instalment sees a young Snake heading to Costa Rica to take down his nemesis, ‘Big Boss’.
The first thing that impresses is how straightforward the story is, with a direct and gripping narrative. You work your way through that story by controlling Snake through the franchise’s traditional third person, stealth-orientated action. Create a fracas and alarms go off, sparking a messy brawl. But silently capture a guard and you can employ one of Snake’s new tricks: recruiting enemy soldiers to start an army of his own.
You can assign your newly captured troops to different areas of your growing force to become, among others, soldiers for use in later missions or researchers to develop new equipment.
All this plays out with sumptuous graphics and the pencilled artwork cut-scenes are particularly beautiful. What’s more, every mission can be played with a
PSP-owning friend. If you want a deep MGS experience with a storyline you can finally understand, don’t hesitate to get this latest adventure
