Donkey Kong country returns

Games
Manufacturer: Nintendo

Donkey Kong Country has finally been reborn on the Wii and, like other Nintendo franchises that have found their way onto the console, it’s a storming success. The game sticks to the 2D-style platforming of the original, but is updated with 3D character models and scenery.
Donkey’s horde of bananas has been stolen, and the gorilla sets off on a quest to set the world to rights. The story is somewhat irrelevant, because what matters here is jumping straight into some of the best platforming you’ll ever play. Donkey swings and smashes his way through vibrant levels collecting bananas and bouncing off enemy creatures.
In the original game, you could switch between Donkey and his smaller, more agile nephew, Diddy, to play in a more frenetic style. Diddy is now only playable in co-operative mode, but the system works well and the little primate is even more fun to play with the addition of a jet-pack.
The variety of levels keeps the platforming fresh – a standout example is when Donkey dodges huge waves, hiding behind rocks to avoid the surf. There are also lovely moments when the sun sets and
the world becomes a stunning silhouette. Colourful fun.
