Few things in modern life are more contradictory and open to spurious nonsense than much of the nutritional information that’s regularly dished up. Thankfully, An Apple a Day is a sensible, rational overview of the natural chemistry of what we eat, and an attempt to unpick our burgeoning food neurosis. A few corny asides help lighten the tone, and of course the conclusion you already know: eat sensibly, be suspicious of miracle food claims, and take the nutritional mumbo-jumbo with a pinch of salt. But no more than 6g per day, obviously.
