Why does time seem to go faster as we get older?

Joe Nadratowski, USA

Most people agree that the years seem to pass at an ever-accelerating rate. That’s because traditions, anniversaries and celebrations gradually accumulate and merge, so that the difference between each year and the previous one grows smaller and smaller.

I think that as you age your cognitive skills slow thus making time appear to pass more quickly.

Time is the same as it always was..

A Childs mind is constently learning new experinces and thus life is full of wonder.. Our minds used to be more active and thus we were unaware of life... as an adult we have learnt most of the things we needed and thus we lose that sence of time when we learn new things.. Infact a childs mind is still in the developing stage, we may have seemed that time went very slow while everything was moving fast.. Its is also to do with that sense of wonder, adults need not wonder about things like we used to, so we dont experience life in the same way...We slowly become aware as we get older and then we never seem to have alot of time for other things so we loose track of time... Deep down as we get older we eventually slow down again but our brain is not developing anymore and thus time goes alot quicker because we lose memory... As memory in a child is still developing it easily moves on to form new momories and experiences, thus a childs mind is constently hyper-active... Time goes faster for use because we live in the fast lane but can not store all the information at once, so we remember portions of our adult experinces... If you want time to go slower for you, you need to slow down, build up your memory and learn new things instead of living by a schedule

to a five year old a year is a fith of his lifetime and seems to be never ending, to a sixty year old a year is a sixtieth of his lifetime and therefor seems to be shorter than that of the five year old

I have to say that Les Hardy's theory seems much more logical than lighteningmarshal's.

It makes sense to me that time goes faster as you get older because you experience more and more.
