It is indeed a puzzle - or a glitch.

Whichever, it will only increase our knowledge of the universe and so is really a good thing.

Although these particles have apparently been observed travelling Faster Than Light speed it doesn't necessarily lead to Faster Than Light travel because it still requires huge amounts of energy to achieve plus you have the problems of inertia to worry about (being pureed in my spaceship doesn't appeal at all) but I will concede that being able to propel a jet of particles at FTL speeds out of a rocket motor would make travel around our local Solar System a good deal easier.
