I know that fish can move but can they actually swim?

Ok, hello and welcome Jack Carter, forgive me but I thought it best to move your query here as it may receive a better viewing than in Guidelines. ;)

So given that swimming is by definition the art of propelling oneself through water then yes, fish can swim.

Do you have any particular reason for posing such a strange question? :?

There are many styles of propagation through water (e.g. "planktonic" where something floats along the currents) but fish as free swimmers capable of adjusting their height and position in the water by their own volition. So yes, they swim
Caveats apply as it is entirely possible that the information contained in the above post is either an attempt at a wind-up, an attempt at a joke or just plain wrong.
