Real Steel

This is, at the end of the day, not much in the way of SF. It's a sporting hero, feelgood movie. :|

It does, however, take a look at the whole business of anthropomorphising the inanimate, which is an issue of some interest today, in robotics research. Given one of the main threads of the plot, I do wonder if the original writing included exploring mimicry, mirror neurones and the whole issue of empathy, but that it got cut for being too time consumptive / costly / cerebral. Potentially a lot more story there than was used. :(

I'll be honest, I saw a trailer and had an almost jaw breaking yawn in response.

It appears to have unintentional elements of a further story lost in the fluff the studio wanted.
Hope is but the first step upon the road to disappointment.

Time for a 'directors cut' I guess? :?

Highly doubtful "cerebral" will be included in the Director's Cut. Our loss!
