I have 2 unruly dogs living in my street, that chase anybody walking by their house. When they come running after me, I turn around chase after them. It really unnerves them, and they bolt for the safety of their yard. I doubt this would be a good strategy against a Doberman or Rottweiler though. If I were confronted by one of those, assuming I couldn't climb on a car, I would go for its collar and lift it off the ground. If that weren't possible and it already has a grip, use the thumbs to gouge its eyes. That's more pain than any living thing can stand. It would need to be applied carefully though, as it could permanently blind the dog.
