most powerful fantasy "Super Being"

After a lengthy heated discussion with my brother inlaw , I argued that 'Q' from Star Trek is more powerful than 'Dr Manhatton' from Watchmen ! Can anyone comment on this or do they have any other 'Super Being' that beats them ? And please anyone, dont say GOD !

Well they may as well if fictional characters are being compared

Problem with this kind of discussion is definition, for instance what in the context of the discussion defines power and can the candidates be fully compared? Until some basic parameters are set and agreed upon then each party is just arguing for their favourite candidate and really just stating opinions.

I'm also not entirely convinced that what is essentially fan arguments belong anywhere on this site, I shall confer with my fellows but until then it goes to the sci versus sci-fi section.

As the wise one stated a dubious bit for this little old forum but have to agree with rogue Q has my vote, but as its me i googled and believe it or not there is a whole host of web sites dedicated to this very subject (some 333,000 sites  )

http://www.silver-surfer.us/Top10list/Top10List.htm

also it depends on which particular comic book series your following wether it be D.C., Marvel or another

Me?

Sorry..... um, well Q is pretty 'up there' when it comes to a super being I must admit, but what about the one that had taken corporeal form after it fell in love with a human female and when a marauding alien invasion killed her (which he could have stopped but chose not too) he snuffed them out of existence completely?
I reckon that one would have worried even the high council of the continuum. ;)

My vote would go to "Galactus". I mean anyone that feeds on planets must be the up there
Surviving the big bang is pretty 'impressive', probably more so than to feed on planets ;)

I think the small fact that he is practically dead and whose psychic presence is only maintained by having a thousand psychic acolytes sacrificed to feed the Golden Throne, well that suggests a limit that others like Q does not lumber under.

I'll just get in any reference to warhammer 40k that I can :D

Hmm ok how about the Shrike from Dan Simmon's Hyperion? It can control time and space, is seemingly invincible and like the classical gods whether it is good or evil depends entirely on where you are standing at the time.

Buffy.

She's slayed them all, and was home in time for Dawn, but not in a kinky way.

Alas she is mortal and whilst she can kick much ass, she is not exactly blessed with any major power.

Btw if it were truly the morning meant it would be a lower case 'd'.

I suspect the 'Dawn' in question is the sister that appeared out of nowhere in series... six I think? :?
But of course we all know that the entitre Vampire Slaying universe is the product of a deluisional mind set of the 'real' Buffy in a psychiatric ward. ;)

Ah, but there's the real "Power of Buffy" - she still kicks ass despite being "mortal" (actually a super-gifted Slayer!!!).

As for Dawn, her delightful sister, but not, as she's an adopted superbeing in her own right. But we won't discuss their other "relationship" when Buffy return home after a hard night's slaying and feeling hyped and frisky... there are children reading this...

Well, far be it from me to argue the superiority or lack thereof of fictional creations ;)

The Beyonder from Marvel's Secret Wars. He's actually the spirit of an entire universe and when he takes human form to enter our 'verse, in the rather tepid sequel, he leaves his universe as just a blank space because he is all there is there. He even has the power to kill gods, supposedly :)

Beyonder, Dr Manhattan, always seem a little too powerful, so mightily powered that there is nothing that can stand against them.

Ahhh but Manhattan was apathetic and self absorbed to the point he hardly noticed what was going on around him, like forgetting that the fetching Silk Spectre II can't breathe on Mars. Otherwise he seems practically without limit.
