The piece on usernames and passwords, pp25 showed how painfully unsecure many accounts and systems can be. All the common words used are a bit obvious to me, except one.

Tomcat!

Anybody got any idea why Tomcat is such a common login/password?

No idea, other than it has something of a social history in the US where you also have the iconic Grumman F-14 Tomcat and that freeware stuff called Apache Tomcat and then again I think the Russians have a thing about them too, they even have a 'Tomcat' day if memory serves?

Personally I gave up on trying to find a unique one years ago as all the best ones seem to have been taken.
Although 'the old one' was quite amusing.

Thanks MPL. As you may discern, I've been out of it for a couple of weeks.

The F-14 crossed my mind, but then I'd imagine Maverick would crop up quite often as well.

The freeware angle looks likely, as most of the common logons/passwords seem to be software/user related.

But seriously. I too have been extremely busy of late and am currently putting in some 60 hours a week but nor am I one of the supposed 20 million who apparently watched this televisual aberration, and yet I cannot find even six out of twenty who will admit to having watched it??
