Moreton-in-Marsh Stone Age axe

A Stone Age hand axe which was found on a building site could help prove part of Gloucestershire was once "almost on the seaside", experts have said.
Archaeologists uncovered the finely-worked stone tool, which may be about 100,000 years old, on a housing development in Moreton-in-Marsh.

And I thought this was a period in our island's history when hominids just didn't feature. Loving it. :D

Keep digging, chaps!

Well found Mr.H. Another twist in the tale of prehistory. ;)

Good article, but there are 2 references that aren't clear. Why does discovery tie in with proximity to the sea, since it also states that it was used to slaughter large animals? I was expecting to read that it was used to descale fish, or to read of fish bones found in he vicinity as a tie in. Also, there is mention of Neanderthals. Is this a Neanderthal tool? Is it similar to tools found in Spain? Back in the ice age, it's known that mammoths would migrate over the frozen sea, which the Neanderthals woul follow to hunt.
