Our detection of the speed at which time moves

Hello everyone. First, when you contribute to this subject, please spell correctly. When you don't you lose credibility. My thoughts on the subject, which surfaced in the morning upon awakening (part of the brain continues to solve mysteries during sleep), are as follows: The basis for our recognizing (as opposed to believing) that time passes more quickly as we age is that, in fact, time IS passing more quickly as we age. The universe is ...

Oklahoma Houses

After seeing the devastation of the houses destroyed by the tornado in Oklahoma, I wonder why they do not build their houses with bricks? Is there a reason?

Back-of-an-envelope calculation about c and weight

If s=your speed as a percentage of c (light speed), how accurate is my guess at the following equation?

Your percentage increase in mass when moving, compared to when you are stationary, is tan(0.9*s)*100.

All I'm going by is the shape of a tangent graph and what I know happens at 0m/s and c.

Am I vaguely close?

Insulation

Hello,

As I need to do some insulation at home, it made me think.
Most (all?) insulation material seem to take the approach of using a material with a low heat transfer coefficient and then fill it with as much air as possible.

My thought was, is it possible to make a really thin material that act more like infrared mirror instead rather than using materials with low heat transfer coefficient?

Element sample radius

Without leaving my second-floor flat in Wrocław, Poland, I can find measurable traces of carbon, hydrogen, iron, calcium and many more elements from the periodic table.

How far would I have to move before I had encountered every stable element so far discovered? They would need to be in sufficiently large quantities for an existing piece of equipment to detect, but the assumption is that I have the freedom to test whatever I come across ...

Flickering flourescent light bulbs

When faulty, a flourescent tube will often flicker.
Why?

Also the flickering is accompanied by a clinking noise.
What causes this?

Entanglement Theory and the Speed of Light

A new article on LiveScience concerning entanglement theory and Einsteins "spooky action at a distance" caught me eye. What pops out is that the speed of entanglement is 10,000 faster than the speed of light. How is that possible if nothing moves faster than light?

The implications were that individual entangled particles don't exist in a particular state until they are measured, and that, once measured, the particles could somehow communicate their state to each ...

Nuclear Submarines

I hope this is a sciency enough question for you but after driving past a nuclear power station I was surprised how big they are and then started wondering about the nuclear submarine on the last Doctor Who episode and how it is they can fit something that must be really big into a submarine? I mean they are big but not that big.
Oh and can I also ask how deep can they go ...
