Hehe - I'm stuck indoors today so this looks like a fun way to pass the time :D

This one's a capybara, the world's largest living rodent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capybara. Closely related to guinea pigs, and looks rather like an enormously fat one...

Image

This fella might be a pangolin, aka spiny anteater. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangolin

Image

And some kind of giant salamander, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_salamander

Image

This one looks like a wombat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wombat

Image

Tasmanian Devil? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_Devil

Image

Okapi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okapi

Image

Naked mole rat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_mole_rat

Image

Red panda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Panda

Image

Three toed sloth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-toed_sloth

Image

A platpus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus

Image

I'll be back later to find some more...

I have no idea if there's fakes in there MPL.

Nice work there Esther, to be fair some of them aren't that odd, I miss quoted the article's title, it was meant to say rare.

Any idea what the hell that thing hanging onto the side of that dust bin is? That scares the bejeebies out of me!

It's a coconut crab, "The Coconut Crab (Birgus latro) is the world's biggest land-living arthropod. It lives in the eastern Pacific region, and, as the name suggests, can crack open and eat coconuts. Actually it will eat all sorts of things; but luckily for us, rarely if ever does it eat live animals. " I'm pretty sure David Attenburgh met one of these in one of the Life on Earth programs.

And this fellow...

Image

is a barreleye fish. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/02/photogalleries/fish-transparent-head-barreleye-picture/

This photo of a giant jellyfish looks kind of familiar

Image

and the webpage it was on http://www.diverssite.com/news.php?extend.778 says that the largest ever found was 2m accross, so I think the diver was added afterwards.

I'm not very convinced by these fellows...

Image

Image

They look kind of rubbery and their eyes don't look quite 'right' to me. No sparkle, no soul...

This looks like one of the river dolphins, but I don't know which one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_dolphin

Image

And this guy seems to be a fennec fox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fennec_Fox

Image

And as for this fella...

Image

...my son and I are convinced it's a chinchilla that's just crawled home after a hard out on the town.

There's still a few more left to keep me busy tomorrow, but that's quite enough fow now!

My son also says that this is a vampire squid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_Squid

Image

He also assured me that this fella was a moonfish, as he'd seen on in the Lisbon aquarium and it was a 'peixe da lua', but after struggling to confirm this we discovered that in English it's a sunfish. I guess Portuguese moons are as bright as the sun in the UK  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_sunfish

I spotted a picture of a diver apparently 'in front' of a positively leviathan jelly fish, here it is.
Is it genuine?? :?

Great stuff.

As long as they don't spoil it by putting up pictures of fictional creatures like unicorns and tapirs.
