How to dispose of Uranium Ore?

Postby billytrout » Jul 4th, '11, 14:55

I have a small lead lined glass jar containing Uranium Ore that used to belong to my father, who was a Physics teacher. Any advice on how to safely dispose of it, or how to pass it on to somewhere that might like to own it for scientific purposes?

bury it deep in the garden and wait about 8 billion years if its 238 or 1400 million years if its 235 and it should be ok, just watch out for stray alpha particles. or you could call the authorities http://www.uk-atomic-energy.org.uk/ they may be able to help :D

Thats a very kind, if unusual offer billytrout. :)

I'm not sure where you might dispose of such material other than to find someone who has a need for it, a local University perhaps ?

Although it is widely available via mail order through various well known on line auction houses so such a need might not actually exist within such institutions. :?
