Forum meeting

Bit of a wierd question, but not a scientific one, so please don't hurt me!

Have any of you guys actually met each other? ie. At a pub, social event, Annual Forum Admin conference, that sort of thing?

I was gonna ask the same thing last month! I was gonnna suggest it, but then thought against it as if we met:

I might not like you

may find you boring/creepy/weird

may feel stupid
a fool who asks is a fool for only a minute

I've met up with people from another forum I frequent a couple of times and we have had an excellent meet each time (gaming clan) although alcohol does makes the latter part of the evenings a little more difficult to accurately recall

No, absolutely not. :o

I did get an invite to a rather wonderful stag do at a Download concert but had to decline on health grounds (they just wouldn't have been able to keep up with me....... yeh as if  ) and I was asked to meet with the editor at Focus central (for a chat) until it was realised that Bristol isn't just around the corner from way up here in the frozen north.

I have met with people from my local area who were on other forums than this one and it was most enjoyable but nothing regular came of it and to be honest I find life is quite busy enough these days, besides I suspect you would be horribly disappointing if you met me in the flesh.

I don't inhabit your realm so that does me

I wasn't proposing a meet up. I just wanted to know if anyone had met up, randomly or something like that. I get this fear that someone will walk into my work one day and see me on the forum and then say "Ah! So you're Thinker? About that post you did calling me an *EXPLETIVE*!"

Meeting people for the first time with whom you have conversed in a forum is likely to end in disappointment in my opinion, unless any of you model for Playboy in your spare time!

Having said that, while I was at Uni I met a couple of people who used the same MUD as I was using, although we hadn't met online until that point - apart from open discussions in a public area - I think we were actually introduced by a mutual friend, and we became quite good friends.

I guess it would be similar to meeting a celebrity, only to realise that they arn't really that bothered about you at all, only your support (and therefore your money).
