Former astronaut to lead starship effort

Where do I sign?

By Sharon Weinberger Science reporter
The Pentagon's premiere research agency has chosen a former astronaut to lead a foundation that is designed to take humanity to the stars.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) and Nasa are sponsoring the project, known as the 100-Year Starship.
Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to go into space, was notified last week that she had won, according to a copy of a Darpa letter obtained by the BBC.
Since leaving Nasa, Jemison has been involved in science education programmes, and is known as a space travel enthusiast and long-time Star Trek fan.
Her organisation, the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence, is partnered on the Darpa project with Icarus Interstellar, a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to interstellar travel, and the Foundation for Enterprise Development.

You could try sneaking on board by changing your name to ‘Solid Snake’ Mr Lloyd.

Since I don't expect to live long enough to see the conclusion of the study, never mind the building of the starship, I volunteer to be put on ice for the duration of the period until the starship is completed and ready to begin its voyage.

I can't imagine them wanting a knackered old wreck like me anywhere near it. :(

But I could stow away in engineering and then when things are going really badly and the captain wants maximum warp to avoid total destruction I can leap to the fore and save the day with my brilliance.
Possibly.

As long as you don't try to sabotage it like Dr. Zachary Smith from Lost In Space. :D

Mae Jemison was a Star Trek fan who ended up as a misssion specialist on board Endeavour, STS-47. She later closed the circle by appearing in an episode of Star Trek TNG, Second Chances. :ugeek:

I think, maybe, she has her head on the right way round. :D

As with the rest of you, not in my lifetime I'm afraid. :(
