Faster Internet?

Postby Shadowwolf » Mar 21st, '11, 13:16

A new laser device created at the University of Central Florida could make high-speed computing faster and more reliable, opening the door to a new age of the Internet.

Professor Dennis Deppe's miniature laser diode emits more intense light than those currently used. The light emits at a single wavelength, making it ideal for use in compact disc players, laser pointers and optical mice for computers, in addition to high-speed data transmission.

A new age of even speedier internet is upon us. Alas we just have to wait for the tech to become commercially available and then the large gap between that, and it showing up here years after it has become standard in the US and greater Europe.
Hope is but the first step upon the road to disappointment.

It's cool getting faster connections, but if the things stuck on the end of it are still using older tech then the benefit may take some time to come through. It doesn't matter how fast the tubes are if the rate of flow into them is still the same.

We'll probably be deluged with a mass of 3DHD content soon afterwards too, to make ensure performance stays at the same mediocre level.

But then, pehaps I'm a miserable old bugger.

Most of it rubbish just like most of flash was and is.

Nah, just perceptive.
