Evolution: Not Only the Fittest Survive

Darwin's notion that only the fittest survive has been called into question by new research published in the journal Nature. A collaboration between the Universities of Exeter and Bath in the UK, with a group from San Diego State University in the US, challenges our current understanding of evolution by showing that biodiversity may evolve where previously thought impossible.

To be honest I'd thought that the above was not a new concept.
Hope is but the first step upon the road to disappointment.

No, it isn't new. Rigid adaption dies out at the next environmental change. Built in diversity gives the broader genome a higher survivial profile. A clear case of not putting all your eggs in one basket.
Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers.

Survival of the fittest as a catchphrase hasn't been taught for quite some time...
Caveats apply as it is entirely possible that the information contained in the above post is either an attempt at a wind-up, an attempt at a joke or just plain wrong.

Shouldn't it be 'survival of the meanest' ? ;)
