Carbon emissions 'will defer Ice Age'

Postby M Paul Lloyd » Jan 9th, '12, 11:06

I have to ask the question........ how exactly do they know absolutley that the next ice age will, or at least would occur in 1,500 years?
I'm duplicating this in the Gen Diss section (twice) because. well because I think its relevant and quite important, if a bit confusing. :?
Does this mean we don't have to worry about CO2 emmissins after all?
(I rather doubt it)

By Richard Black Environment correspondent, BBC News
Human emissions of carbon dioxide will defer the next Ice Age, say scientists.
The last Ice Age ended about 11,500 years ago, and when the next one should begin has not been entirely clear.
Researchers used data on the Earth's orbit and other things to find the historical warm interglacial period that looks most like the current one.
In the journal Nature Geoscience, they write that the next Ice Age would begin within 1,500 years - but emissions have been so high that it will not.

I think it's not absolute but rather when it might have been expected.

Besides their exact words may not be reproduced fully and thus something is lost in the paraphrasing.

I expect you are correct Mr.S but this sort of misrepresentation of science is only going to add fuel to the denialist camp? :?

Please note that no linear mass density of mono-filaments was mentioned during this post. ;)

Perhaps not, for then they would have to acknowledge that human-borne emissions were affecting the environment in a significant manner.

True but I bet the denialists will pounce upon it as a sign of 'bad science' ? :?

"Groups opposed to limiting greenhouse gas emissions are already citing the study as a reason for embracing humankind's CO2 emissions."

I think these groups, and we, may end up getting both, global warming and an ice age.

One of the forum threads painted an associative relationship between high category wet storms and subsequent earthquakes of specific fault types. There is already an apparent correlation between global warming and intensifying meteorological effects. Thus, one can follow the logic that the groups get the unmitigated global warming (don't forget about the giant methane bubbles surfacing from the Arctic oceans), followed by the earthquakes and other tectonic activities which would cover the skies, which would lead to the ensuing ice age.
