"Gritty and realistic" ??????????????? We must have been watching different movies. And besides, grit and realism do not a good movie make... I want interesting characters with some kind of development, a plot, good camera work and for scifi, great set design and CG.

If you'll notice what I posted, I said ID4 was not good.... Only better than this lump. Please don't think that I rate ID4 as anything other than a mindless popcorn flick. But, it was certainly more entertaining than BLA. I guess we won't agree, especially after your hard sell on the first post ;)

Speaking of lumps, did you see The Punisher? That was Thomas Jane... who totally looks like Aaron Eckhart

Haha I wasn't looking for much in the way of characterisation...I suppose we both went to the film looking for different things :)

Ahh that guy. Wasn't he in The Mist too? Now thats a good film. Hmm speaking of good sci fi films, ridley scott is doing The Forever War apparently :D Cannot wait for that.

The Mist, one 'o' Kings best shorts IMO, pretty good movie as well.

As for the Forever War, sounds familiar.
Hope is but the first step upon the road to disappointment.

Joe Haldeman wrote The Forever War, which dates back to the mid 70's if I recall correctly. A clever story too, lots of potential for space battles and 'futuristic' settings but also very forward thinking so I can't see it being dated even after all these years.

If they do make it into a film they had better do a good job. ;)

Thomas Jane was indeed in The Mist, which sadly, I think had Mr. King involved in its creation as it feels like a made for TV movie... worth a watch though... if just for the laugh right at the end.

I think we can declare ridley scott to be a pair of safe hands for The Forever War, no? ;)

It is a fantastic book and it hasn't aged at all. The guy who wrote it was a vietnam vet so it has a very visceral, realistic feel. And the sections that deal with the way the war affects Earth are very well realised. Well worth a read.

Totally agree oh Dark One, and if anyone can do it justice then Ridley Scott is the man.

He had better be at his very best mind.

If you have not read Joe Haldeman's 'The Forever War' then I strongly suggest that you do. ;)

I have not read it, I'll give it a go...

Although for Mr. Scott, he's got me on tenterhooks for Prometheus...

Anyone else see Monsters?

Were they left wondering what had just happened?

I heard that it was good... ... ... for a B-movie.

Well it wasn't terrible but it's not what it makes itself out to be.
