Archaeology

Postby Liam Sheppard » Sep 20th, '11, 18:11

I have returned from my travels. (Machu Picchu was awesome).

The guide on Machu Picchu assured me that archaeologists would find the lost city of something-or-other in the next 5 years. Apparently a city surpassing Machu Picchu! el dorado!

My question is, does anyone know what area spends the most on archaeology?

I assume Egypt is number one! but does every country have its own archaeology dept?

Welcome back Liam.

I can think of one or two African states that probably don't bother too much with archeology but I expect that most industrialised nations have a budget of some kind directed at archeology. As to the biggest... well I bet China would take some beating what with things like the terracotta army , the great wall and numerous pyramids and burial sites that had previously gone unnoticed. ?? :?

Glad you enjoyed your trip, I will keep an eye out for any developments along those lines you mention. ;)
