I understand the need for advertising in any publication such as Focus, even the odd semi-cult sounding ones on the back pages. But why, oh why, do we need bits that drop out on the floor slipped into the pages? In a carbon conscious society (and I think a science mag has all the evidence it needs) do the BBC insist on putting these in month after month? I have two main reasons for highlighting this: one - I am sick of chasing all over the car park of my local shop trying to chase them down while trying to wrestle my three year old into a car seat with armfuls of shopping; two - I don't get to read it until the same three year old is peacefully sleeping in bed and usually happen to throw them into the fire (waste not want not - it produces heat for my shopping-weary arms to bask in and at that time of the evening a trip to te cold kitchen recycling bin is not on my to do list) and the almighty whoooosh always takes me by suprise. We all know from burning peanuts in bunsen burners at school that the most efficient way to realease energy from matter is to burn it, so I can attest to them not being exactly low energy material. Focus - get a handle on it! Add a page to the mag or stop with the junk mail!
