What's the most annoying noise?

The dawn chorus waking you up, budgie's twittering while trying to watch TV, fly’s buzzing round your ears, cat fights in the street, car/house alarms going off at 3am in the morning, planes flying that low they very near take your roof tiles off and last but not least bad karaoke singers just to mention a few :)

Seriously though, the most annoying noises are probably those at the extremes of audible sound frequencies (obviously this changes as you get older), because we're not that used to hearing them.

High frequency - mosquito buzzing in your ear
Low frequency - snoring from the next house or the sound of a car engine turning over

It depends what you mean by annoying. Some noises can be annoying if they are really loud or repetitive, for example "Mum, can I have..." or "Are we there yet". but other annoying noises can be the ones which can send a shiver down your spine. The stereotypical noise is probably the finger nails scraping down on a chalk board as this makes an unbearable screech. personally, i find Velcro the most annoying noise followed closely by 'Britney Spears' ... oops, i did it again!

Oh, and car alarms. I swear that no car thefts are stopped by them any more, people are more likely to cover their ears than call the cops.

The sound of your own headache is the most annoying noise to me. That pounding and humming... and you can't run away from it either!

That would be tinnitus I presume GT?

How about auditory hallucinations? Only you can hear them, they can be nasty to you, and they don't stop all day long!
