The Edinburgh International Science Festival is part of the wider Edinburgh Festival and aims to be very hands on, capturing the spirit of the festival as a whole. Last years highlights included the BBC’ Bang Goes The Theory Live and a sleepover at Edinburgh Zoo.
Cheltenham Science Festival
12 -17 June: Cheltenham
Probably the most respected science festival in the country, Cheltenham Science Festival will make a triumphant return this year. 2011 saw the likes of Brian Cox, Alice Roberts and Lord Robert Winston entertain audiences with inspiring lectures alongside interactive exhibits and competitions. The wait is on to see who will headline this year but going by previous efforts you won’t be disappointed.
British Science Festival
4 – 9 September: Aberdeen
The British Science Festival is the largest in the UK and every year it is hosted by a different city, 2012 sees the festival arrive in Aberdeen. It is open to people of all ages and aims to be interactive with workshops, exhibitions, quizzes and science shows. Those interested in cutting edge discoveries can have the opportunity to discuss the latest breakthroughs with celebrated experts from around the world.
The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition
3 - 8 July: London
Famous for playing host to some of the finest minds in science, The Royal Society will throw open its doors this summer for the summer science exhibition. It will give the public the opportunity to question scientist about the most up to date topics and breakthroughs as well as hosting numerous exhibitions.
Science Museum Live Tour
27 January – 30 April: Nationwide
The UK’s most famous science museum is taking to the road to inspire and amaze people at over 30 different locations throughout the country. The theatrical show is an exciting way to see important science experiments in action. If you don’t want to travel to London, let the museum come to a theatre near you.
