Here is a collection of some of the best images that have caught my eye this month. First up is an image of the last test firing of the reusable rocket that will power NASA’s shuttle into orbit. With the shuttle due to retire later this year, this was the last opportunity for engineers to check the performance of the rocket before the final launch.
Next up are some wonderful images of the surface of Mars taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite. The stand-out picture for me is a stunning shot of sand dunes, giant craters and odd rock formations.
And finally... there is an Asian Weaver ant hanging upside down while carrying a weight in its mouth. This amazing photograph recently won the inaugural Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council science photo competition.
